On Wednesday 22nd May, 129 riders took part in the 8th SEGRO IAS Cycle Challenge, which was the largest turnout for the annual cycle ride.

A return to Beaconsfield Rugby Club this year brought fortune from mother nature after the murky drizzly day experienced at Amersham & Chiltern Rugby Club last year. It could not have been a better cycling day for all concerned - not too hot, a light breeze and thankfully no rain.

Despite two cycle rides taking place in 2016 and 2017 at Beaconsfield, new routes were discovered and plotted to give riders a different experience but still with some challenging ascents. The 75 and 40 mile route options were offered with climbing of 3,636ft and 2,068 feet respectively and the 20 mile route was again an option to try and get more people to take part. It was great to see that the 20 mile option did actually attract more people to take part than last year.

Riders were in bouyant mood as they arrived realising that the weather was going to be kind, the mechanics were on hand to take care of any last minute bike adjustments and the catering department kept the punters happy at the start with bacon rolls and coffee. Once underway riders were treated to two superb feed stations at The Bon Ami Coffee Shop at Naphill and The Three Crowns Pub at Askett. On their return to the club, riders enjoyed a well earned beer and a fantastic BBQ.

In a departure from the traditional prizes for fastest riders over the various distances, the sponsors decided to do a raffle, giving every participant the chance to win a £750 Wiggle cycling voucher to spend on new cycling equipment - the winner was Katie Hoggarth of JLL

Thank you to everyone for taking part and helping to raise money for the two very deserving charities being supported at this event - LandAid and The Malcolm Gunter Foundation. Each charity will receive a donation of £3,900 as a direct result of this cycle ride.
